Frequently Asked Questions

How is YouDiligence different from software programs that I can install on my child’s computer?

First, YouDiligence searches the social networking sites themselves, not your child’s computer, so no matter where or how they access their Facebook/MySpace/Twitter pages (mobile phone, friend’s computer, school or elsewhere), you will know if something you don’t approve of is going on in real-time. Second, YouDiligence sends you alerts, saving you time — so you don’t have to sort through thousands of innocuous files and pages searching for the needle in the haystack.

All other software programs are installed on a specific computer and won’t do you any good when your child goes online on a different computer or mobile phone.

Should I tell my child I am searching their sites?

For this to really help you protect your child, we recommend that you tell them. You’re not only protecting them, you’re mentoring them about responsible use of social networking. They have probably been given very little guidance on what is and what isn’t appropriate behavior on social networks. As their parent, this is your chance to engage them and let them know what you expect from them.

Can I select what key words are searched?

Absolutely. YouDiligence is flexible and provides you with pre-populated categories of words from sex, alcohol, drugs, violence, depression/bullying, race and a custom category that you can populate yourself. At any time you can add or delete key words from any of the categories. This allows each parent to search for only the words they would be concerned about if it showed up on their kid’s pages. Search for as much — or as little — as you want, it’s up to you.

If I already have my child's login & password or am already "friended" by them, why do I need YouDiligence?

YouDiligence is a tool for busy, but concerned parents who may or may not always have time to check their kid's pages. Having YouDiligence should give you some comfort knowing that if you are too busy today, this week, or even for a number of weeks to go on your child's pages, that you will still be alerted via email if anything that would concern you appears on your child's page. YouDiligence is not meant to replace your oversight, it's meant to compliment and enhance it.

What about my child's privacy?

You are their parent, not their friend, and you have no greater responsibility than to protect your child from harm. All of this material is being posted on the Internet by your child and his/her friends. Anyone can gain access to it. With incidents popping up weekly from bullying, to fighting, to sexual predators coming after unsuspecting tweens and teens, law enforcement officials encourage parents to review their Internet activity. YouDiligence is effective and efficient, and will alert you to when you need to go take a closer look at your child's social networking activity.

What Parents Are Saying
About YouDiligence

“I trust my daughter online, but her demeanor changed -- she was being cyber-bullied on her Facebook page. YouDiligence identified the bullying and I stopped it.”

Jenny, mom, Buffalo, NY

“THANK YOU YOUDILIGENCE!!! I had no idea what he was putting on his MySpace page. I AM SO GLAD we found those photos he posted BEFORE the college admissions office did. He thought they were just pictures of him and his friends. It was not the image I wanted out there about him and now they are off MySpace.”

Shannon, mom, Fort Worth, TX

“We always told our daughter to be careful online, and she has been. We told our daughter we were using YouDiligence to help protect her, and she understood completely. We sleep better knowing we have visibility on her social networking pages should something come up.”

Norm & Nazi, parents, Ventura, CA

“I’m not here to be my daughter’s friend. I’m here to be her parent. This is the best tool I’ve seen to help me keep track of illicit activity on her social networking accounts. It works even if she is using her cell phone or is at a friend’s house. Perfect solution. Thanks.”

Roby, dad, Colorado Springs, CO
